I'm Venkat , Venkatesan Ramachandran if we're being formal. I lead a 35-engineer team building AI-native retail-data products that serve tier-1 grocers and 25+ global retailer partnerships. My team builds the systems that turn shopping behaviour into commercial decisions, governed inside the UK GDPR and EU AI Act perimeter.

What I've done

Twenty-five years of building engineering organisations at global scale. The last five at the cadence where AI compounds directly in the P&L.

Before my current role, I was Senior Engineering Manager at A.P. Moller-Maersk, operating as Head of Engineering and Technology for Fulfilled-by-Maersk. That meant 200+ engineers across Denmark, India, the US, and the UK; a $200M transformation portfolio; logistics infrastructure spanning 130 countries; and a 99.9% availability target we actually hit. The credit there belongs to the distributed teams who kept the machinery running while we rebuilt it around them.

Earlier chapters: a $5M consulting P&L at ITC Infotech, CIO advisory engagements with 25+ executives at PwC, and £1bn+ in M&A technical due diligence across 15+ deals , the kind of work where you learn quickly what separates real engineering capability from slide decks.

What I work with

My sector thesis is Retail Data as an AI Platform , agentic decisioning systems that operate within regulatory boundaries, not around them. In production, that means LangGraph, LangChain, Pydantic, LoRA fine-tuning, and pgvector. I hold certifications in TOGAF, AWS and Azure architecture, SAP EA, and ISO 27001 Lead Auditor. I have also passed the ISACA CISM, CGEIT, and CRISC exams.

What this blog is

The Mindful CTO exists because the interesting problems in AI engineering aren't the models. They're the organisational decisions: how you structure teams around ML systems, how you make agentic workflows auditable, how you ship AI that a compliance officer can explain to a board.

Posts come out when I have something worth saying, which is less often than an algorithm would prefer and more often than my calendar should allow.
